Laci Watkins
Dr. Laci Watkins is an assistant professor of Special Education and the director of the Autism Graduate Program at The University of Alabama. She received a PhD in special education with a concentration in autism and developmental disabilities from The University of Texas at Austin. Dr. Watkins is a former special education teacher who has worked with students with autism across grade levels, from preschool through high school.
Dr. Watkins's research primarily focuses on naturalistic behavioral interventions to support play, interaction, and social relationships between students with and without autism in inclusive classrooms. Her work also focuses on ways to improve practitioner implementation of evidence-based practices in authentic educational settings, statistical analysis of single-case experimental design research, and multidisciplinary intervention collaborations in autism research. Dr. Watkins oversees the Autism & Inclusion Lab, which works closely with schools and families in the community to implement supports, intervention, and training to help improve outcomes for children with autism.
